"The smartphone is the modern-day hypodermic needle, delivering digital dopamine 24/7 for a wired generation", writes Dr. Anna Lembke in her latest book, Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence. While our children are digital natives, we’re all vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption with unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting … Dr. Lembke’s talk will explore the benefits of a digital hiatus (and how to do it), and how to moderate compulsive overconsumption in a dopamine-overloaded world.
