The Myth of the Math Brain: Inspiring a Growth Mindset

Jo Boaler, PhD is a professor of mathematics education at Stanford University and the co-founder of YouCubed, which provides resources to inspire and excite students about mathematics. Dr. Boaler disputes the widely held perception of a “math brain,” gives hope to the mathematically anxious, and shows a pathway to success.  She is the author of the first Massive Open Online Course on mathematics teaching and learning. Her book, Experiencing School Mathematics, won the Outstanding Book of the Year award for education in Britain. Dr. Boaler was recently named by the BBC as one of the eight educators changing the face of education.  She is also the author of Mathematical Mindsets and What’s Math Got to Do with It?
