PARENTING GIRLS IN A CHANGING WORLD

In this era of provocative fashion, celebrity misbehavior and “cool-to-be-cruel” social norms, how can parents raise strong and savvy girls?

Come hear Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair as she guides parents in how to help their daughters stay connected to their selves and their bodies, identify what matters to them, and stand up to both teasing and unrealistic expectations.  She presents strategies that will help both mothers and fathers strengthen their relationships with their daughters, providing valuable insights into anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other psychological vulnerabilities so pervasive among today’s girls.

Dr. Steiner-Adair is an internationally recognized lecturer on the topic of girls’ positive development.  The co-author of Full of Ourselves: A Wellness Program Advancing Girl Power, Health, and Leadership, she is a practicing psychologist; the Director of Education and Prevention at the Klarman Eating Disorders Center; and a clinical

instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Steiner-Adair conducted her doctoral work with Carol Gilligan at the Harvard Project on the Psychology of Women and Girls’ Development  and is an expert on the connections between healthy girls’ development and socio-cultural values.
