STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING RELATIONSHIPS AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME
|
||||
Rick Lavoie is uniquely qualified to understand the turbulent terrain of children’s emotions and social relationships. For more than 30 years, he has worked in residential programs for children with learning disabilities, and believes that the psychological insights and strategies he has developed through this work apply to all kids experiencing the pain of social isolation, exclusion and poor self-esteem. Mr. Lavoie holds three degrees in Special Education, has served as an adjunct professor at numerous universities, and has authored several books, including It’s So Much Work to Be Your Friend and The Motivation Breakthrough. Common Ground is pleased to have Rick Lavoie present two different topics: It’s Hard to Be Your Friend Parents feel great pain and powerlessness when they watch their child being rebuffed by other children at school, on the playground and in the community. Mr. Lavoie will explore the root causes for this lack of successful socialization and present practical strategies that parents can use to help their children improve their social standing and success. Drawing on his research, Rick Lavoie offers hope and help to the parents of all children who are experiencing social difficulties. Misunderstood in My Family In this special presentation designed for the parents, teachers and counselors of students with learning disabilities, Mr. Lavoie explores the impact these children have on family relationships. Because they do not look any different than other children and may have significant talents in some areas, children with learning disabilities are often misunderstood by those in their home. This can become a source of significant conflict and confusion among parents, siblings, and extended family. Mr. Lavoie will demystify this situation and offer practical advice to help increase and improve communication within the family. |
